When you step into Nara, the atmosphere of a capital city preserved across more than a millennium envelops you. Standing before the Great Buddha Hall of [Tōdai-ji](https://woud.io/nara/ja/nara_2), you may still sense the quiet prayers of the ancient people who gazed up at Rushana-butsu. At Kōfuku-ji, come face to face with the [Ashura statue](https://woud.io/nara/ja/nara_6) bearing three visages, and listen closely to the story written in its expression. The vermilion corridors of [Kasuga Taisha](https://woud.io/nara/ja/nara_7) and the vista of countless stone lanterns stretching into the distance form a landscape uniquely Nara's own, where nature and faith are woven together. Pass through the primeval forest of Kasugayama, and stand before the [Suzaku-mon](https://woud.io/nara/ja/nara_15) gate, faithfully reconstructed at the Heijō Palace site, to feel the expanse of the ancient capital brought back to life.
